A Symbol of the Heart of the Community
In collaboration with the Morris Park Business Improvement District, Limbic Media has brought a transformative public art piece to the Bronx—The Pulse. The custom installation is 110 ft long and suspended 9 ft above the ground on a fence in Loreto Playground. Using Limbic Media’s Aurora lighting platform, The Pulse responds dynamically to the rhythm of the neighbourhood, shifting colours and patterns to celebrate local events and holidays.
The installation, the first of its kind, represents the vibrant spirit of the Bronx. The DNA-like design symbolizes the deep connections between the people of Morris Park and their shared love for their community. As it illuminates the heart of Loreto Playground, The Pulse enhances this green space, making it a central gathering point for families and neighbours. The Pulse has even received media attention, including a feature in the Bronx Times titled “Large-scale light installation lights up Morris Park,” as well as an honourable mention at the 2024 LIT Lighting Design Awards.
Commissioned by Morris Park BID through a grant from the NYC Department of Small Business Services, with support from NYC Parks, NYC Department of Transportation, and ConEd, The Pulse is a shining example of community-driven public art. It stands not only as a beacon of light but as a symbol of unity and continuous transformation in the Bronx.
“The Morris Park Business Improvement’s ‘Pulse’ light installation is exactly what the Commercial District Lighting Grants were designed to do: illuminate our communities, brighten our neighborhoods, and highlight the unique diversity that defines New York City,”
– Kevin Kim, NYC Department of Small Business Services Commissioner
