Giving Kyle’s Most Recognizable Landmark a Permanent Place in the Night Sky
The City of Kyle partnered with Limbic Media to bring permanent, colour-changing lighting to the Kyle Water Tower, the landmark that has anchored the city’s skyline since the early 1900s. Using Limbic Media’s Aurora technology, the tower’s red, white, and blue frame now carries dynamic colour year-round, turning a familiar daytime silhouette into a nighttime beacon for the community.
Standing above Center Street for generations, the water tower has watched new neighbourhoods take root, parades roll through downtown, and families grow up beneath it. For many residents, it is the first thing they see when driving back into town. The new dark-sky-friendly LED installation honours that role rather than competing with it, lighting the structure cleanly while keeping spill and glare to a minimum.
The lights can shift colour for holidays, civic milestones, and community causes, giving the city a simple, expressive way to mark the moment. Aurora makes those changes effortless: colour schemes and lighting patterns can be programmed and adjusted throughout the year without a crew returning to site.
Installation wrapped in December 2025, and the tower was unveiled during Kyle’s 25 Days of Christmas celebration, with a countdown near the Kyle Christmas Tree at Mary Kyle Hartson Park. It was the first time in the tower’s history that it received dedicated, permanent lighting, and it now glows every night going forward.
This project shows how thoughtful lighting can turn existing civic infrastructure into a cultural asset, strengthening a downtown’s identity after dark without building anything new.
